The Extension

A bigger, better hall for our growing community

Our Vision

The current hall serves Tackley well, but demand has long outstripped what it can comfortably provide. The main space — at 128 square metres — must do everything at once: meetings, fitness classes, children's groups, events and performances all compete for the same floor. There's no dedicated room for smaller gatherings, and the existing bar and catering facilities are cramped and dated.

With the success of the Pop Up Pub, it's clear there is demand for a larger, dedicated community space alongside the main hall. As the village grows, the hall risks being left behind. Without new investment and upgraded facilities, we cannot continue to attract the range of hirers and community uses that keep a village hall both financially sustainable and culturally alive as its community hub.

Where We Are with Funding

The total cost of the extension is estimated at approximately £450,000. We are part-way there thanks to a Section 106 contribution of £107,000, secured through the planning agreement on recent village development. That means we need to raise around £343,000 over the next year or two through a combination of grants, fundraising events, and community support.

24% of total cost secured. Grant funders want to see a community that is genuinely behind a project — and we need to demonstrate exactly that. Here's how you can make a difference.

What the Extension Includes

Planning permission has been granted. The approved design adds a substantial new wing to the south of the building, carefully designed to complement the existing hall.

Dedicated Meeting Space

A brand new 35 sqm meeting room — bookable independently of the main hall, perfect for committee meetings, classes, and small events.

Professional Kitchen

A fully equipped 18.7 sqm kitchen to support events, community dining, and catering hire — a huge upgrade on current provision.

Accessible WC & Lobby

A new DDA-compliant WC and a welcoming 7.5 sqm lobby entrance, making the hall genuinely accessible to everyone in the village.

Ladies & Gents WCs

New, modern toilet facilities accessible from both the main hall and the new extension, to replace the current inadequate provision.

Bar Area

A properly sized bar area (34 sqm) to support events and evening hire — bringing income potential the current hall simply cannot match.

Plant Room & Storage

The plant room will be improved and dedicated storage spaces created, freeing up the main hall for its proper purpose.

How You Can Help

Grant funders want to see a community that is genuinely behind a project — even before the campaign formally launches. The most important thing right now is community support. Here's how you can make a difference:

  • Come to community meetings and show your support in person.
  • Sign up to the mailing list for updates as funding applications progress.
  • Volunteer to help with fundraising events, or organise your own over the coming months.
  • Donate directly — every pound raised locally is evidence of community commitment to grant funders. Donate via JustGiving.
  • Spread the word to friends and neighbours in and around Tackley.
  • Lend a skill — grant writing, event planning, building knowledge: the committee needs you.
